Angry FC Zürich fans tried to storm their team’s dressing room on Wednesday evening, after relegation was confirmed on the final day of the Swiss Super League season.
FC Zürich were able to beat Vaduz 3-1 in their final home game on Wednesday evening, but Lugano’s win over FC St. Gallen meant it wasn’t enough to keep them up.
The 12-time Swiss champions relegated from the Swiss Super League for the first time since 1988 – and their fans didn’t take it very well.
The confirmation of their relegation prompted angry Zürich fans to jump down from the stands after the final whistle and followed their players down the tunnel.
Luckily for the team, security guards inside the tunnel were able to get the situation under control and there were no serious injuries.
But the disorder then spilled onto the streets of Zürich with police using water cannons and rubber bullets at a group of around 500 fans.
