Trouble flares following Standard v Charleroi

Trouble broke out following Saturday’s Belgian league match between Standard Liege and Sporting Charleroi at the Maurice Dufrasne stadium, with clashes involving fans and players after the final whistle.

Charleroi secured a 2-0 victory in Liege, but tensions escalated immediately after the match when the visitors celebrated near the away end, reportedly provoking sections of the home support. Angry Standard fans entered the pitch to grab a flag being waved by Charleroi players, sparking a scuffle.

A group of Charleroi fans then left the away section and confronted home fans near the stands, while more Standard fans spilled onto the pitch as stewards and police struggled to regain control.

Four people were reportedly injured during the unrest and six arrests were made. Several police vehicles were also damaged outside the ground as trouble continued after fans left the stadium.
