Violence broke out in Marseille’s Old Port area on Friday as England fans clashed with Russian hooligans, locals and police on the eve of their Euro 2016 opener against Russia.
Groups of England fans gathered outside bars and cafes were confronted by a group of Russian hooligans reportedly linked to Lokomotiv Moscow and local residents.
Bottles and chairs were thrown and punches exchanged, prompting riot police to use tear gas to separate the rival groups.
Several minor injuries were reported, and at least two England fans were detained.
