Sunday’s Paraguayan league clash between Cerro Porteno and Olimpia at the La Nueva Olla stadium in Asuncion was interrupted twice due to fan trouble.
Tensions flared shortly after Romeo Benitez scored Olimpia’s second goal in the 67th minute to make it 2–0. His celebration near the home fans provoked an angry reaction, with fans throwing bottles, seats and other objects towards the visiting players.
Play was temporarily suspended as stewards tried to restore order.

Although the match resumed after several minutes, further trouble broke out, with Cerro Porteno fans climbing over barriers in an attempt to get close to Olimpia fans in the away stand and throw objects at them.
The match was stopped again in the 80th minute before resuming six minutes later, after police intervened in the stands to bring the situation under control.

Disturbances continued after the final whistle, when a number of Cerro Porteno fans invaded the pitch. Riot police intervened to prevent them from reaching the Olimpia players, who had been celebrating the victory with their fans before retreating to the dressing room.

A total of 32 people were reportedly detained in connection with the incidents, while two police officers were injured.
