Cerro Porteno fans clash with police during derby against Olimpia

Cerro Porteno fans clashed with police on the terraces during Sunday’s Paraguayan league match against Olimpia.

The game at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium was halted after 30 minutes when violence began in the section housing Cerro fans following a police intervention.

Missiles were thrown at police, with some fans also seen throwing punches and kicks. Cops responded with rubber bullets and tear gas, forcing hundreds of spectators in various parts of the stadium to escape onto the pitch.

The match was later abandoned.

There were reports of injuries to both fans and cops.
