Marseille descended into chaos again as clashes broke out between England fans and Russian hooligans ahead of their Euro 2016 Group B match on Saturday.
In the hours before kick-off, groups of England fans and Russian hooligans confronted each other around the city’s Old Port area. Bottles, chairs and other objects were thrown, and punches and kicks were exchanged, prompting French riot police to use tear gas and water cannon to restore order.
Around 30 people were injured, including one England fan who was left in a critical condition after being struck on the head. Several arrests were made during the disturbances.
The pre-match violence came a day after clashes between England fans, Russian hooligans and local residents in the same area.
