Fans of Barcelona SC clashed with police as they attempted to get onto the pitch during their home defeat to Macara in the Ecuadorian top flight on Sunday.
Barcelona SC were 2-1 down with 93 minutes on the clock at the Monumental Stadium in Guayaquil when their angry fans began throwing bottles and flares and ripping down barriers.
Some fans then attempted to force their way onto the pitch, prompting police to move in. Confrontations followed as cops tried to prevent the invasion, with the referee eventually taking both teams off the pitch.
The match was suspended for around 30 minutes before eventually restarting, with Macara holding on for a 2-1 victory.
The result leaves Barcelona in fifth place, while the defeat sparked further anger towards the club’s leadership.
