Marseille fans clashed with Athletic Bilbao fans and riot police ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last-32 second-leg at San Mames Stadium.
Around four hours before kick-off, fans from both sides came to blows in the centre of Bilbao.
As the match approached, Marseille fans also confronted dozens of riot police on the streets leading to the stadium.
At least five people were arrested, according to local media reports.
