Fans of Grenoble and Saint-Etienne clashed ahead of their Ligue 2 match on Saturday.
The violence broke out around two hours before kick-off near the Alpes stadium in Grenoble when several dozen rival fans confronted each other.
It reportedly came after some visiting Saint-Etienne fans left their coaches and moved towards home fans, triggering a brief but intense fight between the two groups.
Police then intervened to separate the fans and restore order. Four fans were reported to have suffered minor injuries in the confrontation.
